Community Conservation and Wilderness in Northern Kenya
Namunyak Conservancy, Kenya
Set within the rugged landscapes of the Namunyak Community Conservancy, on the edge of the Matthews Mountains, Sarara Camp is one of northern Kenya’s most atmospheric safari destinations. Located in the remote Laikipia Plateau region, the camp is deeply connected to both the land and the Samburu communities who protect it.
Sarara’s design reflects this sense of place, blending contemporary comfort with traditional Samburu craftsmanship. Hand-beaded details, carved wood and earthy tones feature throughout the open guest areas and spacious luxury tents. Each tent is carefully positioned to capture sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and a nearby waterhole that regularly attracts wildlife. Interiors are calm and understated, with ensuite bathrooms and private verandas that encourage time spent simply observing the landscape.
For families or small groups, Sarara House offers a private two-bedroom retreat. Set slightly apart from the main camp, it is particularly well known for elephants that frequently visit its pool, creating unforgettable moments just steps from the deck. Shared spaces at the main camp include an infinity pool, comfortable lounge areas, a relaxed bar and inviting dining spaces overlooking the wilderness.
