Bwindi Lodge is located on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest in southwestern Uganda, one of the most important mountain gorilla habitats in the world.

Bwindi Lodge primarily accesses the Buhoma sector of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Buhoma is one of the original and most established trekking areas, with several habituated gorilla families and well-developed trekking infrastructure.

Guests must be 15 years or older to participate in gorilla trekking in Uganda.

No. Golden monkey trekking is available in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, not in Bwindi. Guests wishing to combine gorilla and golden monkey trekking would need to split their stay between Bwindi and Mgahinga.

Bwindi Lodge combines forest immersion with meaningful community engagement. In addition to gorilla trekking, guests can visit initiatives such as Ride 4 a Woman and experience the award-winning Bwindi Bar, which supports local enterprise and community development.

Yes. Families are welcome at the lodge; however, only guests aged 15 and older may participate in gorilla trekking. Alternative cultural and nature-based activities can be arranged for younger children.

Within Uganda, we often combine Bwindi with Queen Elizabeth National Park for traditional Big Five game viewing, creating a balanced itinerary that blends mountain gorilla trekking with classic safari experiences. Kibale Forest for chimpanzee trekking and Lake Bunyonyi for relaxation are also natural additions.

Beyond Uganda, Bwindi integrates seamlessly with Kenya, Tanzania or Rwanda. Many guests combine gorilla trekking with the Great Migration in the Serengeti or Masai Mara, or conclude with a Big Five safari in Rwanda’s Akagera National Park.
