A Classic Mara Camp Reimagined
Little Governors’ Camp is currently closed and scheduled to reopen as Wilderness Mara in early 2026. We recommend checking with your Ubuntu Travel specialist for the latest confirmed opening timelines and planning guidance.
Little Governors’ Camp, long regarded as one of the Masai Mara’s most beloved safari camps, is currently closed for a comprehensive refurbishment and will reopen in early 2026 as Wilderness Mara.
The camp is located on the edge of the Masai Mara National Reserve, tucked into a lush riverine forest and traditionally accessed via a short boat crossing over the Mara River. This arrival has always been a highlight, offering an immediate sense of immersion and close-up views of the wildlife drawn to the riverbanks.
Historically, the camp featured 17 tented suites, each overlooking a seasonal marsh that attracts plains game and birdlife. The unfenced setting allowed wildlife to move freely through camp, creating a relaxed and authentic safari atmosphere that many guests remember fondly.
Dining was informal and outdoors-focused, with meals served al fresco and evenings enjoyed by candlelight in the dining tent. The camp’s location and layout made it especially appealing to travellers seeking a classic, low-impact safari experience within the Masai Mara itself.
As Wilderness takes the helm, expectations are high for a sensitive reimagining that preserves the camp’s legacy while aligning it with Wilderness’ conservation-led approach and contemporary comfort standards. Full details of the updated design and facilities are expected closer to reopening.
