Before joining Ubuntu Travel, Sean Messham worked as a travel and conservation photojournalist, documenting overland journeys through Uganda, Kenya, and Tanzania, while also exploring Southern Africa. His writing and photography have appeared in publications such as Africa Geographic and through collaborations with WWF and IFAW, celebrating Africa’s wild places and the people protecting them.

Sean later trained as a safari guide, spending over five years guiding at lodges like Kirkman’s Kamp in the Sabi Sand Nature Reserve and Ngala Safari Lodge in Kruger National Park — where he also met his Australian wife, Christina. (Yes, have you heard of khaki fever? There’s definitely a rom-com here… ask him about it.)

After guiding, Sean returned to media and storytelling, specializing in digital content and social media for a leading travel company. During COVID, he helped bring African safaris into people’s homes through live virtual experiences, inspiring travelers to stay connected to the wild.

This blend of first-hand wilderness guiding and storytelling experience allows Sean to connect deeply with travelers, offering honest insights, personal anecdotes, and a genuine appreciation for Africa’s wild spaces.
