FAQs About Mauritius
When is the best time to visit Mauritius?
The best time to visit Mauritius is from May to November, when the island experiences cooler, drier and sunnier weather. This season is ideal for beaches, lagoon swimming, snorkeling and outdoor exploration, with low humidity and calm sea conditions that make marine activities exceptional.
From December to April, the island becomes warmer and more humid with occasional short tropical showers. This is Mauritius’ summer season and it remains an excellent time for snorkeling, diving and resort stays. The landscapes are green and vibrant, and many travelers enjoy the quieter beaches during these months.
Overall, Mauritius is a year round destination, with each season offering a slightly different but equally enjoyable island experience.
Is Mauritius a good destination after a safari?
Absolutely! Yes! Mauritius is one of the most popular post-safari beach extensions in Africa. With calm turquoise lagoons, direct flights from South Africa and East Africa, and world-class luxury resorts, it’s a seamless transition from wildlife adventure to island relaxation.
What activities can I enjoy in Mauritius?
Mauritius offers a mix of marine adventures and scenic inland experiences. Expect snorkeling, catamaran cruises, paddleboarding, golf, and spa treatments, alongside visits to volcanic landscapes like Chamarel, waterfalls, hiking trails, and cultural excursions.
Do I need malaria medication or vaccinations for Cape Town?
Cape Town and the surrounding regions, including the Cape Winelands and the Garden Route, are completely malaria-free. You do not need malaria medication for this part of your trip.
If you’re combining Cape Town with a safari in northern South Africa (such as Kruger, Sabi Sand, or Phinda) or visiting countries like Zambia, Zimbabwe, or Botswana, your travel doctor may recommend preventative malaria medication.
