FAQs About Mozambique
When is the best time to visit Mozambique?
The best time to visit Mozambique is during the dry season from May to October, when the weather is warm, the skies are generally clear and visibility for snorkeling and diving is at its strongest. Sea conditions are calm and predictable, beaches are at their most inviting and marine life is easier to find in the clear water. This period is especially popular for travellers ending a safari, as the cooler temperatures and calmer seas create perfect conditions for island and coastline activities.
From November to April, Mozambique enters its summer season, which brings higher heat, increased humidity and short tropical rains. These showers usually pass quickly, but it is important to know that the air feels warmer and the ocean can be livelier at this time of year. Many travellers still enjoy these months for their lush, green landscapes, warm ocean temperatures and quieter beaches.
Marine migration is also a highlight of the summer period. Whale sharks and manta rays are more regularly seen from October to February, making these months particularly rewarding for divers and snorkelers interested in larger pelagic species.
Overall, Mozambique is considered a year round coastal destination, with each season offering slightly different but equally memorable island and ocean experiences.
Is Mozambique a good destination after a safari?
Yes. Mozambique is one of the most popular post safari beach extensions in Southern Africa. With warm turquoise water, soft white sand beaches and direct connections from Johannesburg, Kruger and Vilanculos, it offers a seamless transition from wildlife adventure to relaxed island time. Many travellers end their safari with a few nights in the Bazaruto Archipelago or Ponta Mamoli for exceptional diving, snorkeling and downtime.

Where are the best beaches in Mozambique?
From our experience and client feedback, the finest beaches in Mozambique are found in the Bazaruto Archipelago and along the coastline of Ponta Mamoli. These regions are known for powder soft sand, clear turquoise water and vibrant coral reefs ideal for snorkeling. Benguerra Island, in particular, is famous for its remote bays, calm lagoons and secluded stretches of coastline that feel completely untouched.
Is Mozambique safe to visit?
Inside the regions of southern Mozambique, yes. When travelling with reputable partners who operate in the south, Mozambique is considered safe and well supported by experienced tourism teams. Ubuntu Travel works exclusively with trusted lodges and handlers in Vilanculos, the Bazaruto Archipelago and Ponta Mamoli, where tourism infrastructure is strong and visitor movement is carefully coordinated.
Most unrest reported in international news takes place in the far northern province near the border with Tanzania, several hundred miles away from the southern beach and island regions visited by our travellers. These northern areas are not included in our itineraries.
Travellers can also enjoy secure fly in and helicopter transfers from Vilanculos and Maputo directly to their lodges, reducing travel time and providing a smooth, safe and scenic arrival experience. These air transfers are operated by vetted aviation partners who specialise in coastal and island routes across southern Mozambique.
