Turning the Tide on Ocean-Bound Plastics

At Ubuntu Travel, we believe that every journey should leave a positive impact on the world. That’s why we’re thrilled to announce our partnership with Ocean Co., a global movement dedicated to collecting 7 billion ocean-bound plastic bottles by 2025.

How Your Journey with Ubuntu Travel is Saving the Ocean

Did you know that a staggering 48 million pounds of plastic enter our oceans each day? That’s equivalent to a truckload of plastic every single minute. If we don’t take action, by 2050, the plastic in our oceans will outweigh the fish that call these waters home. Through our partnership with Ocean Co., Ubuntu Travel is committed to this empowering and sustainable initiative in three key ways:

1) Your Ubuntu Travel Bottles:

Not only are our premium Ubuntu Travel water bottles and coffee flasks made from 64% recycled material, but they also represent 25 pounds (11.4kg) of ocean-bound plastic collected – equivalent to 1,000 plastic bottles.

2) Ocean-Bound Plastic Collected:

As a token of our appreciation for choosing to travel with Ubuntu Travel, we pledge to fund the collection of an additional 1,400 PET bottles (35 pounds of plastic), ensuring responsible recycling or proper disposal of these plastics to prevent environmental harm.

3) Local Community Support:

By selecting to travel with us, you enable us to help empower and support 158 workers at collection centers in and around Mombasa, Kenya. Our collaboration addresses the significant challenge of ethically processing single-use plastics before they get into the Indian Ocean. Plastic is collected by locals from some of the worst affected coastal communities such as Mombasa, Kenya, where Ubuntu Travel has chosen to focus our efforts. We are proud to be the first luxury African safari travel agency to join this initiative with Ocean Co.

Together, through this initiative, Ubuntu Travel and Ocean Co. are making a meaningful impact on ocean health and supporting communities affected by plastic pollution. This initiative is powered by partners Plastic Bank, Plastics for Change, and rePurpose, who establish collection sites and ensure secure transactions for plastic collectors through traceable technology.

In joining Ubuntu Travel on your journey through Africa, you’re not only experiencing the magic of the continent, but also actively participating in a movement to safeguard our oceans and support communities impacted by plastic pollution. Together, let’s create a sustainable future – one safari at a time.
